About Us

From Your President

On behalf of the Figure Eight Island Yacht Club Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our 34th season.

During the last year, your Board endeavored to address significant Club issues to maintain and enhance the Figure Eight Island experience. We performed much needed reparis and renovations to the pool area; refurbished and updated problem areas on the docks; installed new carpets and furniture in the Helm, Lounge, and main dining room areas; installed new wallpaper throughout most of the clubhouse; and finished renovations to the East Desk. We also began an important conversation with all of our Membes about long range planning and how to address space and facilit issues around our beauiful Club campus. And we rang in 2016 with a new concept of dinner and dancing with the band, Simply Irresistible, resulting in a substantial increase in Member attendance from the previous New Year's Eve.

During the upcoming season, the Club plans on equally exciting mix of events, including the Annual Fitness/TRYathlon/5K (May 28), boating, tennis, swimming lessons, water aerobics, Pilates, bridge, and "The Shopping Splash" (July 14-16). In addition to our traditional holiday celebrations, please join us for our complimentary "Meet and Greets" (May 27, June 17, July 1, and November 25); "The Lobster Bake" (May 28); "Father's Day Fishing Rodeo" (June 19); Italian Night - "Dolce Vita" (July 2); "Wine Dinner" (July 22); the "Heritage Event" (September 3); and much more. Bridge Seminars return on June 20-21 with Larry Cohen. Jeff Kohl returns as Director of Tennis with Tennis Socials on June 16, July 7, and August 11 and Julia Witchek returns as Fitness Director with aa packed schedule of activities. Finally, BINGO! runs every Wednesday evening from June 15 to August 10, including May 29.

Planned enhancements to our facilities this season include the new poolside "Deep End" Cabana with an expanded shaded sitting area under the pergola; enovations to the adjacent Ceremonial Lawn; and an overhaul to our website, among other kitchen and landscaping improvements. As a reminder, our Annual Members Meeting now takes place on the Saturday of Father's Day weekend (June 18) to allow greater Member participation.

Your Board remains engaged and committed to providing a very high level experience to Members, while exercising fiscal responsibility and maintaining Club traditions. We also hope to be improving communications with Members about the Club, including the use of email and social media. Please contact me, our General Manager, or any of the Directors with your questions, concerns, or suggestions.

We wish you a very happy, safe, and fun-filled season at Figure 8 Island Yacht Club
